Hi! I’m Tracy Hanes, the founder of Candor Bookkeeping Services. I’m so happy you have found your way to our website. I Would love to share a little bit about myself.

My first soiree into the world of Bookkeeping was back in 2016. I left my career as a Registered Dental Hygienist to pursue a career as a Production Accountant. I remember working on my very first television series as a trainee. I loved that I was learning so many new things! And the film world itself was completely different than what I was used to! I learned the ropes quickly and found that I was a natural when it came to accounting principles. By 2019, I was a First Assistant Accountant, overseeing the accounts payable department. Then Covid-19 happened, and I realized just how vulnerable the film industry was to economic changes. I started thinking of ways I could utilize my new skills and create a business that was mine. I lacked confidence in translating my skills to corporate accounting, and I wanted a credential in my hands. So I studied Bookkeeping part-time at Georgian College and completed my certificate in December 2023! To test my knowledge, I took the QuickBooks ProAdvisor exam and passed it! As a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, I can offer a reduced rate on a subscription when you partner with me as your bookkeeper.

One of the things I love most about doing accounting in the film industry is it’s all contract-based. I start on a production, work on it for 6-8 months, and then I get to start fresh on a new production. In doing this, I have been able to refine and perfect my processes to run smoothly and seamlessly. All while continuously learning and refining as I go. What I’ve learned is:

• There is always a way to fix an error, unless it’s a wire transfer!

• The tedious processes are in place for a reason. Don’t try to cut corners.

• There are ways to work smart, and then there are ways to create more work than what’s necessary.

• Most importantly. Delegate. Delegate. Delegate. You cannot do your best work if you are trying to do everyone else’s as well.

As a small business owner, I know how scary it can be to give up one of the many tasks we business owners handle. It’s scary to hire someone.
